Get to Know Our Elementary Counselors: Part 6

Name: Henry Reid

School building: Rosa Parks Elementary

Subject Area: School Counselor

College(s): Ohio State University ‘16, Xavier University ‘21

Hometown: Blue Ash, OH (Oak Park, IL)

Tell us a little about yourself and your family:

Me and my mother are my immediate family. Extended family consists of two aunts, one uncle and two cousins that live in Chicago. We visit them frequently.

Why did you become an educator/school counselor?

To help serve and support students and their families as they navigate their way through the education system. Helping them achieve success, whatever that success looks like for them.

What do you like best about Middletown City Schools?

The relationship and culture of support the staff members have for each other as well as the connection between the staff and the community. Also, the color Purple has really been growing on me.

What is your favorite Middletown/your school tradition? Why?

Making sure each student has at least three positive greetings from an adult before they start the school day. I think it is a great way to give the kids a positive primer and set the tone for them having an enjoyable day at school.

If you weren’t a counselor, what would you be doing?

When I lived in Chicago while I was younger I did a good amount of acting through a program called CAST. I have always wanted to be an actor, I still think I have time for my big breakthrough.

And for some fun questions!

What do you like to do in your spare time?  What are some of your hobbies?

Read books, go on hikes, watch movies. My current favorite place to go hiking is Big Bone Lick state park in Walton, KY after stopping at Enlightenment Coffee a local coffee shop right by the park.

What’s your favorite Middletown restaurant?

Veracruz, great environment and even better food!

Favorite quote or personal motto:

"We cannot always control the situations we find ourselves in, but we can always control our response" ~~ Viktor Frankl

Anything else you’d like to share?

The Middletown Community has welcomed me with open arms. I was nervous at first to start a new job in a new place, but after being here for a few months I am really starting to enjoy calling Middletown my home!
