Sophomore, Junior and Senior Girls. There is an opening in show choir for one girl. Auditions for this spot will be held tomorrow at 2:30pm in the choir room. A sign up sheet is posted outside the choir room. Current Freshman are not eligible to audition. All interested girls should report to the choir room at 2:30 and be prepared to sing a verse of a song of your choice. You will be taught a short dance. There will be no individual times.

Mrs. Fugate is starting a creative writing club at MHS, so if you are a word master, a metaphor makin' wiz, a poetry slammer, or just someone wanting to improve his or her writing skills, this is the club for you! CW Club will have its first meeting Thursday in Mrs. Fugate's room 275. Please stop by before to sign up!

Are you a person who likes talking about topics like the meaning of life, the existence of God, or the best form of government? Then you might be interested in joining Philosophy Club. Philosophy Club meets on Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 in room 274. The first meeting for this year is Thursday, October 4th. That's Thursday, October 4th, 2:30-3:30 in room 274. Freshman interested in becoming a Middie Mentee in the 2018-2019 Middie Mentor program should pick up an application in Ms. Turner's room, room 236, Mrs. Lawson's room, room 232, or with Ms. Daniels in the Future Center. Applications should be returned by Friday, Sept. 28th by 2:15 PM.

Chess club will be every Thursday after school in Mr. Stringer room 120. Come beat the master, or learn to play. Anyone interested in magic the gathering club see Mr. Stringer sometime this week.

Any student interested in touring AK Steel on October 5th for manufacturing month can pick up a field trip permission form in Ms. Turner's room, room 236. All seniors who want to attend must be graduation points ready. The field trip will leave at 8:30 and return around noon.

Senior Middies! It is that time of year again. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is offering their yearly scholarship cotillion for female seniors. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about leadership and earn a scholarship. If you are interested in participating please see Ms. Wilson in the Guidance office before Friday for a application
and more information.

Starting next Tuesday, 10/2, and continuing for 8 weeks, there will be a Biology refresher course for Juniors and Seniors who have not achieved a 3 on the Biology End-of-Course Exam and are currently taking a Biology class. The class will be 1 hour from 2:25 – 3:25 every Tuesday. You will need to sign up weekly on the Google form found in your MAP course on Schoology. You will also need to be able to sign in to a computer. We will review basic terminology and
concepts and practice released test items.


Are you looking to join a community service group? Look no further. Key Club will hold its first meeting Thursday at 2:30 in room 272.

Hispanic Heritage Month Fact of the Day:
According to the US Census Bureau, there are 41.8 million Hispanicsin America, representing 14.2 percent of the U.S. population, with estimates for growth to nearly 20 percent by the year 2050. Hispanics encompass more than 20 nationalities: Hispanics of Mexican heritage make 64 percent of the Hispanic population, followed by Puerto
Rican, with 9.6 percent, and Central Americans, with 7.2 percent.
