Black History Month:
Born November 24, 1914 in Hickory, Virginia Bessie Blount Griffin was self taught to obtain her GED. She then attended Community Kennedy Memorial Hospital's nurse's program. After obtaining her Nursing degree, she continued her education at Panzer College of Physical Education and Hygiene in East Orange, New Jersey and became a physical therapist. Blount a known inventor for the field of Physical Therapy invented an electric self-feeding apparatus to help amputees feed themselves. She was quoted saying "Black woman can invent something for the benefit of mankind" Blount died at the age of 95 on December 30, 2009 in Newfield, New Jersey.
